DON'T FRACK THE BRIGGS
Take a tour of our campaign.
Forming out of a Bishopbriggs Community Council meeting in mid October 2014, Don't Frack the Briggs has enjoyed various degrees of success with the community, including massively raising awareness of the issue of fracking and successfully hosting various events, like public meetings and fracking film nights.
Formation
We formed in the middle of October 2014, during a Bishopbriggs Community Council meeting in the Bishopbriggs Library. Our first task was to plan a public meeting in Bishopbriggs Academy.
Our first stall
With 5,000 leaflets spare, we set up a stall at Bishopbriggs Cross to talk to the local residents about the forthcoming issue. With what was a successful day, we shifted most and began collecting signatures for a petiton.
First protest
We attended protests at Grangemouth against Ineos, who had announced they are going to invest up to £640m into shale gas exploration. We joined protesters in calling for a complete ban on fracking.
Our first leaflet
To raise awareness about the issue of fracking we had our first leaflet printed, containing information on fracking, and including a date to our first public meeting. We delivered over 10,000 leaflets to homes around Bishopbriggs.
Our first meeting
In November 2014 we held our first meeting in Bishopbriggs Academy. It was an extremely successful night. Patrick Harvie was representing the anti-fracking side, and an Ineos director was on the pro-fracking side.
