Clyde-valley plan.

3 things you need for Fracking. Landowners' permission. A license. And planning permission.

Planning permission is controlled by two development plans; one for East Dunbartonshire and one for the Greater Glasgow area.  By law, these plans are updated every 5 years.

The East Dunbartonshire Local Plan has a consultation period starting in April, however the deadline for the Greater Glasgow Clydeplan is Friday 27th March.

Why should you make a representation?  Because the proposed Clydeplan does not even mention Fracking.  It asks for your opinion on Wind Farms, but there is no mention of Fracking.

If this continues, then any future planning applications for Fracking are in danger of being approved because there is no policy guidance that prevents Fracking happening near where you live.

What can you do?  We want you to email clydeplanMIR@clydeplan-sdpa.gov.uk  and tell them why planning controls should be put in place to prevent Fracking near your home.

Here are some planning reasons over and above just not being a fan of Fracking:

  • Clydeplan wants a 'Low Carbon Economy' - Fracking will increase carbon and methane emissions in the Greater Glasgow area.

  • The cumulative impact of Fracking wellheads which have to be drilled less than a mile apart to Frack shale rocks will ruin the countryside between our towns.

  • Climate Change - prevention is better than cure.  Leave carbon fuels in the ground..

Finally, there should be a presumption in the planning framework against Fracking taking place within the Clydeplan area.

Please feel free to add any of your own thoughts or concerns.
